Social framework
Legal, institutional and economic frameworks for forest conservation and sustainable management has been identified as one of the key criteria for sustainable forest management in Australia.
Forests in Australia are managed under the principle of continual improvement. This requires a commitment to public involvement and increased awareness; periodic planning, assessment and policy review; and maintenance of an appropriate level of human resource skills and physical infrastructure to support best practice forest management.
Public education and the enforcement of laws, regulations and guidelines regarding forest use are also key components of sustainable forest management in Australia.
