Youth (13 - 18 years)
The Australian Forests website is currently under development. A dedicated Youth section will be created in Stage 2 of its development.
Return to this section soon to see some great information and activities for kids. In the meantime here are some interesting sites that kids might find useful.
Online activities and information
- Interactive Maps (Victoria) - allows the user to zoom-in and zoom-out, pan around the map, identify features in the map, do queries on databases and print out maps.
- Ollie’s Island – Information and activities about the forestry industry - search in the eBook section.
- Photo libraries (NSW) – a great source of forest and forestry related images for school projects.
- Plantation Maps – make your own map using information from the Plantations of Australia Information Network.
Community programs and activities
New South Wales
South Australia
- Friends of Forests is a volunteer organisation that has been established by ForestrySA to enable volunteers to assist in a range of projects to help protect and improve conservation areas, heritage sites and visitor facilities in Forest Reserves.
- Friends of Parks
Victoria
- Environment Corps – a program delivered through schools focusing on environmental awareness and research - activities can include captive breeding of endangered species.
- Field Naturalists Club of Victoria - Victoria's oldest conservation group that advocates practical conservation and study of natural history.
- Friends Groups – These local groups get together to take part in activities that help restore and maintain their local forest, or just to share their knowledge and information.
Western Australia
- CALM Bush Rangers - a voluntary program for young Western Australians to participate in personal development training that provides practical life skills, develops leadership, teamwork and initiative skills, and fosters qualities of community responsibility and service.
