Planted softwood harvested commercially in Queensland.  Used in general construction, flooring, panelling and plywood.

 
 

Southern Blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus)

Native and planted hardwood harvested commercially in South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia.  A hard and dense timber used in flooring, some furniture and heavy construction such as bridges and piles. As a planted timber it is an important source of pulpwood fibre for papermaking.

 
Spotted Gum (Corymbia maculata)

Spotted Gum (Corymbia maculata)

Native hardwood harvested commercially in New South Wales. A planted timber in Western Australia.  Has a range of possible uses including as a sawn or round timber in engineering works , fine and outdoor furniture, flooring, parquetry and turnery and as an unseasoned timber in general framing and construction, joinery and fencing and is also used for axe, pick and hammer handles. It is promoted for high-grade sawlog production in farm forestry.

Sugar Gum (Eucalyptus cladocalyx)

Sugar Gum (Eucalyptus cladocalyx)

Harvested commercially s a planted hardwood in South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.  Used for fine furniture, flooring,  panelling , structural and firewood.  It is also being promoted for sawlog production on cleared WA farmlands.

Sydney Blue Gum (Eucalyptus saligna)

Sydney Blue Gum (Eucalyptus saligna)

Native hardwood harvested commercially in New South Wales and Queensland and as a planted tree in Western Australia.  Dark p ink to red-brown in colour with a pale sapwood and a straight grain. Used in fine furniture, veneer, flooring and in heavy engineering construction, poles, general construction and sleepers. It is also promoted for high-grade sawlog in farm forestry.

Tasmanian Oak 

The three species below are collectively marketed as

  • Tasmanian Oak.
  • Brown top stringy bark (Eucalyptus obliqua) see Messmate Stringybark
  • White or Gum top stringy bark (Eucalyptus delegatensis) see Alpine Ash
  • Swamp gum or Stringy gum (Eucalyptus regnans) see Mountain Ash
 
Western Australian Sheoak (Allocasuarina fraseriana)

Western Australian Sheoak (Allocasuarina fraseriana)

Native hardwood harvested commercially in Western Australia.  Dark red heartwood with a prominent medullary ray feature.  Used in high quality furniture (indoor and out), craftwood, turnery, firewood, fencing, roof shingles, flooring and panelling. Historically it was a favoured material for beer barrels.
