Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata)
Planted softwood harvested commercially in Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. It originates from southern California. Timber used in general construction, flooring, panelling, furniture, joinery, plywood, particleboard, fibreboard and paper. When treated it can also be used for cladding, decking, external trim, poles, piles, fencing and sleepers. |

Redwood (Eucalyptus trancontinentalis)
Native hardwood harvested commercially in the Wheatbelt and southern Goldfields in Western Australia. Heartwood is red-brown, tough, hard and durable, with an attractive grain. Traditionally used for mining timber and fuelwood for the goldmining industry, and aboriginal use for spears. Recent uses include fine design furniture, flooring and panelling. It has potential for use in musical instruments and specialty craftwood. |

Native hardwood harvested commercially in New South Wales and Victoria. Timber used in flooring, sleepers, furniture, decorative turnery, panelling, sills and posts. |

Salmon Gum (Santalum salmonophloia)
Native hardwood harvested commercially in Western Australia Goldfields area. Timber is very strong, durable and dense and has a high conservation status in Western Australia’s W heatbelt. Probably the best known eucalypt in the region, now used for furniture, flooring and craft compared to its historical use in round and sawn mining timbers and sleepers. |

Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum)
Native and planted hardwood harvested commercially in Western Australia. It is widely distributed from Shark Bay through the Wheatbelt and Goldfields to the South Coast. It was one of Western Australia’ s first export industries. It features an attractive yellow timber with darker growth rings. The sandalwood oil is highly regarded in the world ’s fine fragrance and aromatherapy industries with small amounts of the timber used for decorative carving, craft and smaller furniture pieces. |

Sassafras (Atherosperma moschatum)
Native hardwood harvested commercially in Tasmania. The distinctive light and dark colour of black heart sassafras is highly regarded for furniture and craftwood products. |

Shining gum (Eucalyptus nitens)
Planted hardwood harvested commercially in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.
The branch retention characteristic of shining gum gives the milled timber a high feature characteristic. The timber is used in flooring, wall panelling, wall studs, framing timber, and furniture products. Its major use is as a source of pulpwood fibre for papermaking. |
