On average, Australians use over one tonne of wood products per person each year, or around three kilograms a day.  Sawn timber is used in our housing, fencing and furniture, while wood products are also used to make wood based building panels, woodchips and the paper, pulp and paperboard that we rely on daily.

Timber is one of humanity’s most tried and tested building materials.  Since the first European settlers harvested native trees to build the foundations of the colonies, Australian builders have used sawn timber as their preferred building material.  Today timber framing is used in over 90% of wall and roof frames in housing constructions around Australia.

Ongoing research and development in the industry ensures that wood products continue to meet the high standards demanded by Australian consumers. Manufacturing processes are also continually being improved to make wood products more durable and environmentally-friendly.
