- The European Sirex wood wasp can single-handedly kill a tree, and has become a major pest problem in Radiata Pine plantations. In South Australia, however, Sirex wasp has been successfully controlled by the introduction of biological control agents - a parasitic wasp and a nematode - which destroy the wasp larvae.
