Australian Forests

ABOUT THIS SITE

Australian Forests website provides an overview of Australian forest systems. It provides access to comprehensive information on the ecology of forests, how these systems are managed, the resources they provide, forest- based industries and an introduction to the concept of sustainable forest management and the use of natural resources. A series of links and pathways for those searching for more detailed information is also provided.

The website has been developed by the National Forestry Education and Awareness Network and is supported by a group of government and industry organisations. These organisations include the Department of Primary Industry and Resources SA, Forests NSW (part of NSW Department of Primary Industries), Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Tasmania’s Forest Education Foundation and the National Association of Forest Industries.

The National Forestry Education and Awareness Network reports to the Federal Government and consists of the State- based forest educators involved in the development and delivery of teaching and learning programs and resources for teachers and students.  The group includes qualified teachers and works closely with State education systems. This website serves as a portal for accessing these State based forest education services.
